As you get started, make sure that you are fully honest with yourself about what your area(s) of expertise are and what your bandwidth is since this is going to initially be a side business. Don't be afraid to pass on a job that you're not 100% confident you can complete to the customer's expected level of satisfaction, both in terms of quality and turnaround time.
You WILL get customers who want you to tackle something you might not be comfortable with.
You WILL get customers who want a large project done on an unreasonable timeline.
I believe that many of the "bad" shops we all hear about were started by guys with good intentions of providing quality work, but got in over their heads and aren't able to make things right.
